Woman charged over bomb found in car in Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan | RTÉ News

A 25-year-old woman has been charged in connection with the interception of a bomb that was discovered in a car in Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan on Wednesday.

Isobella Perrie Sullivan, a law student, with an address at Abbeylands Park in Clane, Co Kildare, was charged with the possession of explosives at a special sitting of Trim District Court this evening.

A member of the Garda Special Detective Unit gave evidence of arrest, charge, and caution at Dundalk Garda Station today.

He said that Ms Perrie Sullivan was stopped in Carrickmacross on Wednesday, and that the vehicle she was driving was searched.

He said that a device was found in a bag in the back of the car, which contained a timing power unit, a detonator, and what he believed to be Semtex.

The Detective Garda said that the Defence Force’s EOD were called and subsequently determined that the device was viable.

He said the maximum penalty for the offence Ms Perrie Sullivan was charged with is 14 years and objected to bail due to the seriousness of the offence.

Representing Ms Perrie Sullivan, Gavin Booth of Phoenix Law said Ms Perrie Sullivan lived with her father in Co Kildare, and that she is studying to become a barrister.
