For Alan McArthur and his husband, Declan Groves, their 1950s home, while having great (if worn-out) bones, needed a new lease of life, not to mention a kitchen.<br /> “We bought the house 10 years ago; it didn’t even have a kitchen at the time, just a small pantry with an open fireplace.” It did, however, have a 140ft garden, giving them plenty of options for expansion, and beautiful Victorian features, including picture rails, generous ceilings and decorative architraves.<br /> “We knew the bones were good and it was the potential that drew us in, and the huge garden meant we had room to play.”<br /> Credit to : Irish Independent</p> <p>
