Dermot Morgan as ‘Disgruntled Mid-West Man’, Ireland 1988

‘Disgruntled Mid-West Man’

No public figure is safe when a disgruntled man from the Mid West, a Dermot Morgan creation, gives his opinions on ‘Kenny Live’.

Host Pat Kenny has just finished interviewing athlete Eamonn Coghlan and is about to wrap up the show when he is interrupted by a stream of comments from this particularly irate gentleman.

Comedian Dermot Morgan’s character is in full flow. Directing his ire at RTÉ newscasters and television presenters, he accuses them of engaging in illegal activities,

Ye in RTÉ have been the worst offenders when it came to drugs…Anne Doyle, night in, night out on the news. She’s smiling at this and she’s smiling at that.

A Dublin centred mindset is to blame for a lack of funding for sporting events anywhere outside the capital,

When we wanted something for the Mid-West, when we wanted the Winter Olympics…We could’ve had tobogganing in Roosky if it weren’t for the likes of ye.

And even Olympian Eamonn Coghlan and the entire Irish Olympic team come under fire,

The only medal they’d win, t’would be only a miraculous medal.

This episode of ‘Kenny Live’ was broadcast on 22 October 1988. The presenter is Pat Kenny.
