The payment scandal at RTÉ
Today I take a look at the news story that has been dominating the news cycle in Ireland for the past couple of weeks: the payment scandal at RTÉ where The Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy’s pay was topped up with undisclosed payments made at taxpayers expense. The TV licence fee seems more untenable than ever now that the truth has been laid bare about just how wasteful RTÉ’s spending of taxpayer money has been.
Ryan Tubridy’s agent Noel Kelly pushed for RTÉ to underwrite the payments, former Director General Dee Forbes signed off on them, and the rest of the RTÉ board were in the dark, or at least, that’s what RTÉ claims.
