Some Covid Positivity

Some Covid positivity from Kieran Cuddihy

Some Covid positivity (of the good kind) from Kieran Cuddihy on The Hard Shoulder this evening.
This comes on the heel of the Taoiseach announcing that the first walk-in COVID-19 vaccination centres are due to open this weekend.

Full details are expected to be revealed by the HSE later, while a decision is also set to be announced on vaccinating 12-15-year-olds.

Speaking ahead of a Cabinet meeting this morning, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said they want to get more young people vaccinated soon.

He said: “I think it has been a very effective programme so far – but we want to encourage high participation rates now among the remaining age cohorts.

“To that extent, the HSE will be adding walk-in vaccination centres over the bank holiday weekend to facilitate further vaccination among 16, 17, 18 year-olds onwards in particular.”

He was speaking after vaccine registration opened to everybody aged 16 and 17.

Around 84% of adults have now received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while nearly 70% are fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said he expects there’ll be “good news” later today around weddings.

Ministers are considering proposals around increasing the numbers allowed at ceremonies from 50 to 100.
